Plastic packaging veteran Hop Lik Plastic Products passes back the savings from "economy-of-scale" production to customers and keep them satisfied with the delivery of superior products with the most intricate details they ask for, said its general manager Mr. Herbie Tsui

Being around in the plastic packaging industry long enough to establish a solid operational base has given Hop Lik Plastic Products a clear advantage over many newcomers.

According to Mr. Herbie Tsui, its general manager, "our industry has evolved to a state whereby consumers are so inundated with such a dazzling range of choices that only products with superior designs, the finest fabric and the most economical pricing can satisfy them." Since its establishment in 1982, Hop Lik Plastics Factory has been producing transparent plastic packaging - in the form of boxes, cases, bags and holders - for a wide range of applications in garment, electronics, toys, cosmetics, giftware and other industries. The company has also diversified into plastic card-holders, badge-holders and passport holders. Catering to mainly OEM clients, these items are sold to the United States, Europe and Australia.

He said: "Largely due to revolutionary holographic engraving techniques imported from the United States and Italy, our ability to produce laser-printed, premium-quality holographic boxes is unrivalled. These products come with vivid, multi-colour motifs finely imprinted on foil material in OPP, PET or PVC for a higher overall appeal,

"The lenticular articles we produce - from calendars to cards, hand-fans and boxes - from 3-D lenticular sheets have also drawn favorable industry acclaim."

For a perfect finishing touch, every Hop Lik Plastic Products item has been subject to surface-treatment, such as hot-stamping, silk screen printing or offset printing to meet OEM specifications on print clarity, texture and other effects and to satisfy customers' craving for novelty.

"This means that our in-house range of capabilities, from thermo-flattening, die-cutting, hot-stamping, flexography, labeling and others allow of even the most innovative designs to be realized. And our full capability range is something many of our competitors lack. And this will explain why we have been ruling the competition for so long," said Mr. Tsui.

Aside from product variety, design and quality, Hop Lik Plastic Products is also beyond comparison in product pricing. As it enjoys a massive volume of product orders from all over the world, it is able to harness production economy of scale and the cost savings generated are passed back to customers.

By moving its manufacturing facility to Buji, Guangdong province of China, the company has enjoyed cheaper overall production costs there and part of the savings accrued are ploughed back to the production plant for operational improvements, not least of all quality control. Its ISO9002-certified plant, with a total floor area of 120,000 feet, is staffed with a 200-strong work force, including 5 quality-control experts as well as engineers, sales and marketing professionals. The factory reaches a daily production capacity of 200,000 boxes

Mr. Tsui disclosed that with surging raw material cost and growing marketplace competition, the company has intensified efforts in resource maximization, in order to deliver products of a consistently high quality, without raising cost or sacrificing profit.

"For instance, during the peak season from March to September, we will hire temporary manpower to keep up with busier manufacturing schedules and increase production capacity. But in the low season, our resources will be re-channeled to other areas to keep operational cost down, such as the production of high-value items for optimal cost efficiency."

Although the company keeps a watchful eye on its bottom-line, it will continue to increase its long-term investments in technology and people to cope with market changes.
