In 27/03/2007 Kiani Kertas changed it's name to Kertas Nusantara. The Site provided a combination of four necessary elements: available conversion forest area , permanent availability of clean process water, location for deep water shipping and suitable construction conditions. As a company built in the era of environmental consciousness, Kertas Nusantara has established commitments to be Elemental Chlorine Free from start up, has achieved ISO 9000 Certification, and follows air and water effluent standard equivalent to North America mills. The Company is committed to sustainable forest practices, including conservation areas for biodiversity.

PT Kertas Nusantara has a commitment to its employees, customers and neighbors to operate the facilities as a steward of the environment. Mill Supervisors are trained to promote environmental awareness among employees as an intrinsic part of their everyday work. Since the beginning, Kertas Nusantara has committed to being an environmental leader through a policy of not cutting virgin forests, managing our own forest land on a firm schedule to achieve sustainable forestry.

The Company is committed to its customers to operate a process and to deliver a product that meets or exceeds the highest international, governmental and industry standards. To achieve this, the mill has been designed to utilize the best available technology to minimize the impact on the atmosphere and receiving waters. This technology includes a low odor recovery boiler, power boiler and lime kiln. Each have state of the art precipitators to reduce particulate into the atmosphere.

The pulping technology itself uses an extended cooking sequence that includes oxygen delignification and the recovery of process chemicals. The bleaching sequence also employs the latest technology in which no Elemental chlorine is used. The Mill effluent is treated microbiologically to remove BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand). In-plant re-use of water and filtrates enable minimum discharge to the river.

The Company's objective is to ensure that the surronding area, and its people benefit from the presence and operation of the mill. Environmental procedures and policies are continuously monitored to ensure that environmental standards are consistently met.
